The most thematic of narrow roads acts as a link between the Old Port and the trendy, chic Opera area : the "Rue de la Mode" and its neighbourhood focus on the cream of Marseilles designer boutiques.
Nearby rue Davso and rue Sainte play host to many trendy boutiques yet have not shunned the more traditional shops. Florists, coffee roasters, bakers, butchers, they're all there ! Infused with a real neighbourhood vibe, Marseille has not given into that standardisation that has sanitised other city centres.
There is also rue Grignan, the lawyer's stronghold, more arrogant because of its heritage (tall town houses thanks to fortunes made at sea) as well its shops (the hotspot for luxury, jwellery and trendy concept stores). And for a gourmet break, ther are tea rooms and cafes to please all. Shopping addicts will be in their element. Literally as well as figuratively.
